The Lee Valley Farms are set just outside London in rural Essex around 15 minutes drive from North London. While the city farms in inner London are miniature versions of real farms, you’ll find the real thing in Lee Valley. As you’d ould expect, this is a great place for kids, with traditional farm animals, meerkats as well as play zones and a range of activities.

Lee Valley Park Farms consists of Hayes Hill and Holyfield Hall Farms. Within these idyllic surroundings on the edge of River Lee Country Park, the farms have so many different animals to meet, from cuddly sheep, rare breed pigs and cows to llamas, reindeer and the loveable Meerkat family.

Hayes Hill Farm

Hayes Hill Farm contains the visitor centre, orchard cafe, adventure playgrounds and a variety of exotic and farm animals. Besides the traditional farm animals, here are a few unusual characters that you might not expect on a farm. It was a really nice surprise for our kids to experience meerkats, llamas, reindeer and chinchillas. The adventure playground includes a bundle barn with a soft play area for the youngest kids to explore as well as the Dino Dig & Splash area.

Holyfield Hall Farm

Holyfield is a working dairy farm, and you can hitch a ride with Tex the Tractor going there. Visiting a dairy farm is quite an experience for young kids, and you can even take home your own bottle of fresh milk. There are several activities taking place, such as falconry displays, meeting the small furry animals and milking of cows.

Summarising the Lee Valley Farms

There is no question that Lee Valley Park Farms is a great place for families with young kids into farm life. The interactive sessions are well run with knowledgeable staff, and they are also good with children holding everyone’s attention. When the kids had enough of animals, it’s nice to have several play areas to choose from which makes it possible to actually have a day out and not just a 30 min tour to see the animals. All in all, we would say it’s good value, especially if your kids are passionate about farm animals and you take full advantage of all the activities.
