Stepney City Farm is a rural sanctuary in the middle of London’s East End, with plenty of cool farm animals for kids to enjoy. It’s not just a place to meet animals; there’s a wide range of social activities taking place for locals residents as well as visitors.

The farm was founded by locals in 1979 built on a neglected ww2 bombsite. After ups and downs, the farm has been thriving in recent years thanks to passionate staff and volunteers. More than 5000 school children are benefiting from classes, tours and projects each year, and it’s a hub for social activities in Tower Hamlets.

Stepney Farm offers children and adults a chance to learn about farm animals, to grow food and try out arts and crafts. When it comes to animals, the farm is home to chickens, ducks, geese, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and a farm cat. There is also a popular Farmer’s Market on Saturdays selling fresh local produce. The farm runs a range of activities for children, like family farm club, young volunteers, baby music classes and animal & nature wellbeing groups. There are also special events taking place regularly, such as Teenie Halloweenie, featuring an annual Halloween costume parade.

The Humble Bee Cafe

The on-site Humble Bee cafe recently received a great review in The Guardian mentioning “The café at Stepney City Farm offers big, thoughtful dishes of good things – as well as games, animals, kids and smiles”. A cosy cafe definitely adds to a visit, as it doesn’t take a lot of time walk through the farm and see the animals. What makes Stepney farm great is the total experience, especially if taking part in the organised activities and rounding off a visit in the Humble Bee.
